Google Core Update March 2026

It’s here. The first confirmed Google Core Update for 2026 has been released.

Expected to take a full two weeks to roll out, Google said the core update just released “is a regular update designed to better surface relevant, satisfying content for searchers from all types of sites.”

This core update follows on from the March 2026 spam update, which will continue to evolve as search changes.

Although two weeks have been quoted, core updates can take a lot more time to fully roll out, so it may run over that time frame. Using Google Search Console will help you to identify more.

What We Know

Name:  Google March 2026 Broad Core Update

Launched: 27th March 2026

Rollout: Up to two weeks (could be longer as we have seen before)

Targets: This core update will target all types of content

Penalty: This core update is not a penalty; instead, it rewards great webpages that offer quality content

Location: This is a global update that will impact all regions, across all languages

Impact: this is a normal core update, updating some for the “core systems”. Google has also said this March update is a “regular update.”

Discover: Core updates impact Google Discover and other features, also feature snippets and more.

Recover: If you were impacted by this core update, you will need to take a good look at your content and see if you can make it better with Google’s core update advice.

What Should I Do?

First of all, don’t panic, it’s very common that sites fluctuate during a core update rollout, so take a breath and wait till the update is stabilised.

In the meantime, look at your content – does it really help the user? Does it provide value and quality? Does your content help to answer a question? Or does it just exist to hit a keyword target?

Read through the E-E-A-T guidelines and strengthen these signals within your site content – remember this is a site-wide update, so it will impact core pages and product pages, not just your blog.

Review any pages that are thin on content – how can you expand this content, keeping it helpful and of high quality?

Do you have duplicate content, either on your site or on other sites? Act on this as soon as you can.

How Does The Future of Search Look?

SEO has evolved a lot in recent years because user behaviour has changed over time. Google wants to reward the best content to answer a user’s query. If this content isn’t on your site, you aren’t going to perform well. But remember, it’s not just about any old content – it needs to be clear, helpful and trustworthy.

Ensure your content hits this brief, and you will be putting yourself in the best position for the future of SEO, as it stands at the moment.
